About The Fermata Club

Our club is situated on the grounds of the former Fermata School for Girls, founded in 1919 for the education of the children of the Winter Colony residents by Marie Eustis Hofmann, wife of the internationally famous pianist Josef Hofmann. "Fermata" is a musical symbol meaning to "rest" and hold the note longer than usual. Fire destroyed the main buildings of the school in 1941.

In 1952, 16 families leased the former school and grounds with the intention of cleaning it up and forming a social club on the property. By the time the pool opened that summer, the club had expanded to 131 charter members.

Since then, Fermata Club has played an important role in the Aiken community with countless social, swim and tennis events. Every year dozens of weddings and milestone parties are held here.

The Fermata Club is a private corporation owned by its members and governed by a Board of Directors. For further information, please contact the Club manager at 648-5673.
